So I had been putting this off for probably three or four years, because the last time I hired someone to do work around the house, some outfit out of Piscataway, they left a mess and never came back to finish the edging, and that kind of thing sticks with you, you know, you just get gun-shy about calling contractors, so I kept patching the old driveway myself with those bags from Home Depot which, honestly, never hold up past one winter anyway. Anyway my neighbor on Clover Hill recommended Miles and I figured I would at least get an estimate. He came out himself, walked the whole thing, and that is when he pointed out that the slope along the left side near the garage was draining toward the foundation instead of away from it, which nobody had ever mentioned to me before, and he explained pretty matter-of-factly how they would regrade that section when they poured the base so it would shed water correctly going forward. No big speech about it, just, here is what we are going to do. The crew showed up on time, two days start to finish, and the driveway looks as good as anything on this street, clean edges, no mess left behind. I am kicking myself for waiting as long as I did.

Had Delaneys in to redo the concrete pavers around our pool. Midway through the job, the crew spotted some drainage issue left over from whoever poured the original slab — water would have pooled right against the house eventually. Miles flagged it, they adjusted the grading, and moved on without making it a big production. Pricing was fair for the scope, no surprise add-ons. The finished deck looks clean and the spacing on the pavers is consistent throughout. Only thing I'd mention is communication between the office and the crew could be a bit tighter — there was one afternoon where nobody was sure if they were coming back the next day. Minor, but worth noting. Overall, solid work and I'd use them again.

I've had driveways poured since the sixties — asphalt, concrete, you name it — so I know what a well-run paving job looks like and what a sloppy one looks like. When Miles and his crew showed up at my place here in Somerset, they came prepared. Materials arrived when they said they would, the old surface came out clean, and nobody disappeared for three days in the middle of the job the way some outfits do.

The interlock pavers they laid down have a really solid, even look to them. My wife keeps saying the front of the house looks ten years younger, and honestly she's not wrong. The edgework along the curb is tight, the drainage slopes the way it should, and the whole thing was finished in the timeline Miles gave me at the start.

I dont hand out praise easily at my age, but Delaney's earned it. I'd recommend them to any neighbor on this street without hesitation.

So here's the full timeline because I kept all my texts and I know I'll want to remember this. Reached out to Delaneys on a Tuesday morning in late September — found them through a neighbor two streets over who had her front walkway done last spring. Miles responded same day, which honestly set the tone for everything that followed. We went back and forth on WhatsApp for a few days, he sent measurements, I sent photos, and by that Friday we had a quote that I thought was genuinely fair for the scope of the job. Two-car driveway, full concrete replacement, they were also extending it about six feet toward the garage door. I had gotten one other quote and Delaneys came in a bit lower, but that wasn't even really the deciding factor — it was more that Miles actually explained what they were going to do and why, which the other guy did not bother to do.

Crew showed up on the agreed date, October 11th, right around 7:45 in the morning. I was working from home that day so I watched a fair amount of it through the window. They pulled the old cracked concrete out in sections, hauled everything away, graded and prepped the base — the whole thing was just methodical and clean. No one was standing around. By end of day the forms were set and the concrete was poured. Miles texted me at 4:30 to let me know they were wrapping up and to stay off it for 48 hours, which I appreciated because I definitely would have walked out there to look at it that same evening otherwise. 😄

When I finally got to actually stand on it a couple days later — I don't know, it sounds like a small thing but the surface is just so even and clean-looking. No patches, no seams in weird places, nice clean edges along the lawn line. My neighbor actually knocked on the door the following weekend to ask who we used. The garage apron especially looks like a completely different house. I have a Ring camera pointed at the front and I pulled up the footage just to watch the before and after transition, which is a little ridiculous but here we are. 😂

Total cost came out exactly as quoted — not a dollar over, which is something I always brace for with contractors and it didn't happen here. Would absolutely use Delaneys again and have already passed Miles's number along to two people in our neighborhood.
