What stood out most with Barrow Valley Roofing was how methodical the whole job was from the first visit. Pat came out, had a proper look at what needed doing — a section of damaged slates at the rear of the house, some flashing that had lifted, and guttering along the side gable that had seen better days — and gave a clear, itemised breakdown before any work started. No vague estimates, no surprises later. The crew arrived on the day they said they would, which in my experience is not always guaranteed with tradespeople. They worked steadily through both days, kept the area around the house tidy as they went, and were considerate enough to let me know when they'd be moving around to the back garden, which mattered as we have a dog who would have been underfoot otherwise. The finished repair looks exactly as it should — neat ridge line, slates sitting flush, the flashing bedded properly and the guttering rehung with the correct fall. Nothing flashy to look at, which is precisely the point. A good roof repair should be invisible once it's done. I have had no issues since, through some fairly heavy rainfall. Pat was responsive by phone throughout and followed up briefly afterwards to check everything was in order, which I appreciated. I would comfortably recommend Barrow Valley Roofing to anyone in the county looking for straightforward, competent roofing work done without drama.

What I will say about Paddy and his crew is this: the punctuality was, frankly, exceptional. I have dealt with contractors over a good many years and the matter of turning up when stated is, in my experience, far from guaranteed. Barrow Valley Roofing arrived on the appointed morning without any prompting on my part, subsequently completed the verge tiling work within the timeframe discussed, and furthermore returned precisely when arranged to finish the ridge detail. The price quoted was the price charged — not a penny added on. I would recommend them without reservation.

Got three quotes for a section of damaged roof over the back extension. Barrow Valley came in competitive — not the cheapest, but the quote was itemised properly which the other two weren't. The repair itself is solid: clean finish around the flashing, ridge tiles re-bedded neatly, and no trace of the mess afterwards. Six weeks in and it's holding perfectly through some heavy rain.
