The old shed at the back has been part of this house since my husband and I moved in over forty years ago, and the roof on it had finally given up. Pat sent out two young lads, Kevin and another fellow, and they had the whole thing stripped and re-roofed in a day and a half. Neat as you like. The timberwork underneath was sound, they said, and they were honest enough not to pretend otherwise. My daughter was visiting with the grandchildren that weekend and even they were remarking on how tidy it looked. Everything was cleaned away before they left. I would not hesitate to recommend Barrow Valley Roofing to anyone in the area. Straightforward, well-priced and they did not leave me waiting around wondering when they would show up.

The one thing I keep coming back to when I think about the whole job is how quickly Pat actually responded to me. I had sent a WhatsApp message on a Thursday morning at around half eight, not really expecting to hear anything until the following week at the earliest because every other tradesperson I had contacted in the weeks before just seemed to go quiet after the first message. Pat came back to me within the hour. That was the 14th of March. We had been dealing with a drip coming through the ceiling of the back bedroom every time it rained heavily, and by that point I had towels and a basin doing more work than they should ever have to do. The speed of that initial response genuinely set the tone for everything that followed, and I would not hesitate to recommend barrow valley roofing to anyone on that basis alone. Would absolutely use them again.

I don't usually bother with these things but fair is fair. rang Paddy in early September, he came out within the week to have a look and left a written quote a day or two after. price was reasonable, not the cheapest I was quoted but not far off. start date given as three weeks out, they arrived on the day as arranged. two lads, done front and back of the house in the one day. took away all the old guttering themselves. only thing I'd say is I wasn't told beforehand what colour options were available — had to ring and ask. small enough thing. tidy job overall.

The sequence of events, for anyone considering them: initial call on a Tuesday, quote received by Thursday, work scheduled for the following Monday — that lead time struck me as reasonable given the season. We had opted for barrow valley roofing over another local firm because the quote was more itemised and Pat himself took the time to explain what was causing the ingress rather than simply pricing the fix. Two lads arrived Monday morning, as agreed. The job ran across that day and a portion of Tuesday. Ridge area was the source of the problem, which they addressed along with some deteriorated flashing that I hadn't been aware of. The roof has been sound since, through some considerable rainfall. The one caveat I'd offer is that the final invoice arrived later than I'd have expected — a week or so after completion, which caused a mild administrative inconvenience on my end. I'd argue that's a fairly minor matter in the context of the overall job, and in fairness the work itself gave no cause for complaint.
